I am putting my 12" creasent jointer back together and have a question. Not sure if I am missing a part or have to many parts. This is on the motor side bearing housing . Side closest to knives . First you have a round cast iron cover plate that three tabs on it ,that is held in place with a set screw.then large bearing ,then a 1/4" ring that measures 3 5/16" diameter ( bearing and bearing housing measure 3 1/2") not sure if that ring is original to machine or not. Also with the ring and bearing in place and cover plate the inside would have a open space of about 1 1/4". Being the ring is a smaller diamiter something does not seam right to me. Thanks Gary

It's seem not seam. I am very familiar with the Crescent Jointer. In my opinion it's one of the finest machines ever made. Very simple and dependable. Much better and simpler than the parallelogram designs of Europe.

Unfortunately from your description I have no idea what you're even talking about it sounds so confusing and convoluted. If it's original it must be ok.

The part i think i am missing is a spacer that goes over the shaft on the motor side between the large bearing and the armature. SEEMS it would be about 2" long.
(not sure of the length that is what i need to know???

I think the spacer might be 4 1/2" long not 2"
Does anyone have one apart?

What is the bearing? Angular contact or deep groove radial? Spacer could be to load the bearing but really in the dark without numbers or pictures. Dave

If self aligning the spacer should be about the same as the outside shoulder to allow the bearings to move in the race without binding against something right next to the bearing. The balls can be proud of the inner and outer so something is needed to keep them from hitting what is tight to the bearing. Dave
