    'Twas a Good Day...

I spent some quality time in the shop today.

    And in the kitchen too...

Knob & tote are Honduran Rosewood. Chisel handles are Cocobolo. Japanning is my latest formula -- which substitutes Lee Valley Polymerized Tung Oil for the more commonly used BLO. It covers in two coats, (vs the usual three), cooks at a lower temperature, and is just as hard, i.e., like enamel.

James Krenov says that "the craftsman lives in a
condition where the size of his public is almost in
inverse proportion to the quality of his work."
    (James Krenov, A Cabinetmaker's Notebook, 1976.)

I guess my public must be pretty huge then.

    Japanning formula

Would really appreciate hearing the details of your formula. I am new here, so don't know if you have posted it somewhere else before.

    cheers, Paul
