    Using BLO on old wood?

I'm refurbing an old wooden plough plane and have used Vince Sandy's formula of bee's wax, turpentine and lemon oil to clean the wood. It looks really nice so far. Should I use BLO on it before finishing with shellac & paste wax? I'm wondering if the BLO has any properties that will help preserve the wood.

    Thanks.

I usually just coat all of my old moulding planes with BLO. No need for the shellac.
