    Foils

Is there a product out there like a foil that can be placed over the substrate that allows the laser to burn the foil into the substrate leaving the colour of the foil embedded? Not looking for the stuff that cuts like sign vinyl and is adhered to the piece.

What about this heat transfer stuff?

I am not aware of a foil product for transfer use with a laser.

The process used to transfer a foil image is called hot stamping. It's an old process but still in wide use. Certain mechanical engraving machines can do that using foil and a hot stylus. A woodburning tool might do it but would probably be too hot.

There is product called "laser foil" that you adhere to substrate than vector cut and weed like vinyls, it this is what you are looking for.
Check Laserbits or Johnson plastic web sites for these foils.
