    Allan, very nice interesting lamp. I like the contrasting woods. Not sure I care for the size of the base.

    I like the contrast in shade and shape. My eye tends to want a little more balance in visual weighting - like having a walnut cap at the top of the neck that would contrast against the neck and the brass hardware. That's just my style.

    As for the bottom I totally hear you about stability. I might have gone with a cove on the base to transition into the broad table surface area. Again, that's just my thinking. I love seeing what you guys come up with - it always inspires new ideas!

    I also thing the base looks too substantial. I think that it was made from 2 boards, and the mid point would make a good transition from a ogee to give a smaller section at the top. Still an interesting lamp.
