woodmaster drum sander paper wrapping techniques?

It seems no matter how much I try and get the paper to wrap flat and evenly, I eventually will have it fail due to slack/a wrinkle in the paper at the runout end. Am I missing something here on how to get it to wrap evenly and avoid this failure? Sometimes paper will last hundreds of board feet, and sometimes it seems to mess up after a few minutes, very frustrating.

The only problems I had with my Wooodmaster was when I taped both ends of the drum (instead of just the one end where you start the wrap) and when I was gang feeding 1/4" thick edge banding strips and they tore the paper and I had to replace the velcro on the drum.
It was a good machine, well built but slow.
