Cap iron has a thumbscrew....but wait, there is more
IMAG0067.jpg
Not just a steel sole, it wraps around the heel, across the back under the iron. Two "arms" stick into the mouth opening, and hold that rod in place.
Early yet, the only markings were a label hidding under the iron....in Japanese.
Also in the box of "wonders"

Middle two have the "handi-grip" sides, only one has an adjustable mouth. The little one out front of this parade has two Bailey's Patent dates on the almost used up iron.
Jack planes cami in this box as well

Sargent in front, cracked sole Stanley #5 T-11 in back.
Now, about that Japanese "infill" plane......any ideas?
