    Finish for decorative boxes?

I am getting ready to finish 2 decorative boxes, one made of rosewood and the other walnut and birds eye maple. I am trying to decide what finishes to use. I am looking for something that will penetrate and not produce a visible surface film like shellac or lacquer. When I have tried oil type finishes the rosewood darkens more than I would like. I have used tung oil on the walnut, but it has remained a little sticky in the past. Any suggestions for a light finish that won’t affect the color on the rosewood and won’t sit on the surface as a film. Lemon oil? Fresher tung oil. Does lemon oil gather dust? If the tung oil has been in the cabinet a while does it take longer to cure?
    Thanks

Have you tried boiled linseed oil? Wipe on, wait a while, wipe off. Repeat as needed.
Dispose of rags carefully. Ya sure don't want to experience a fire.
