Any particular SAE 30 oil for planer feed rollers?

Folks - I was wondering what oil others use for their Grizzly planer roller lubrication. The instruction book calls for SAE 30, so I'm thinking some regular 10W-30 motor oil. However, I wasn't sure if SAE 30 motor oil is the same as any other SAE 30. I find lubricants a bit confusing sometimes....

Is there something else better? Somehow using car motor oil in the shop is vaguely troubling. Thanks,

Have not seen the Grizzly manual but there is an SAE30 Non Detergent you can buy that is often used for machinery. It is spec'ed for my pressure washer pump.

I would vote for most any Non-Detergent oil in 30 weight ballpark. But any oil is better than no oil....

Where would one find a nondetergent oil? Does it just say nondetergent on the label, or is it a specific brand? Thanks -

SAE 30 does not equal 10W30

SAE motor oil is what some of the old timers like to call "straight oil." You can find SAE 30 or 40 weight at any decent automobile supply house. I utilize Castrol oil, both in my car and the straight weight non-detergent variety.

My old 1949 ford 9N tractor uses 30W non detergent -a tractor supply place would likely have it.

Most auto parts places have straight SAE30 non-detergent motor oil. It is generally labeled for use in things like oil-lube air compressors and tools and pre-1963 engines. There are a lot of warnings on it to not use it in a newer engine. There are a lot of detergent SAE30 oils out there as well which is what many small engines would use. (Many of them also can use 10W-30.) Those are typically labeled as "HD30."

I used a few drops of 10W-30 as I had plenty of it on hand. The oil simply drips onto the roller shaft ends and I doubt that it is too sensitive to viscosity or oil characteristics. It's not as if it is being used in a pressurized lubricaton system or being subjected to a lot of heat. I'd think that keeping the roller shaft clean would be much more important than anything.

Use Compressor Oil. Easy to find in Box Stores. It is non-detergent. Not sure of weight but I bet it is close to SAE 30
