    Y Axis question

    I am curious what is standard direction for Y+, moving towards you or away?

    Gantry moving away counts up on mine = Y+.

    Table moving towards me (fixed head on my CNC Knee mill) counts up = Y+.

    Mike is correct. (both cases) Assuming the most common CNC configuration with the XY zero in the lower left corner, positive X is to the right, and positive Y would be up (table view). Most Router tables use the "upper right quadrant" coordinate configuration.

    While it may not meet everyone's idea of standard, here's my configuration.

    I built my Shapeoko2 CNC on a shelf against a wall of my shop. Viewing it from the side, my X-axis is left(minus)-right(plus), Y-axis is near(minus)-far(plus). This makes it just like looking at a paper graph on your desk.

    The dimensions I can handle are at 50" X by 18" Y.

    Thank you everyone! I will change the direction of my Y+ to move away from me. I think I now how to do this in Mach 3, but let me ask to be sure how to do this?

    Ed there are varying ways in each operating software, sometimes a 0 or 1, sometimes a negative sign in the step resolution number.

    In hardware you can simply swap positions of the 2 wires in one of the motor wire pairs (either the A or B)

    Either will accomplish the same.
