I was looking on the apple website and have noticed the ipod touch models are no longer offered for sale. This surprised me since i was looking to buy a new one.

Just de-emphasized in favour of Apple's new Music subscription service:

(had to scroll down to the footer of their home page to find that link)
The iPod Touch seems to be the last model standing (which is kind of a shame 'cause I'd like to replace an iPod Classic which I keep attached to the stereo in my truck).
Probably a soon-to-be-dead product category, displaced by smart phones and streaming services. Having a dedicated device to play music has become a very small niche market. It may be that you can just use an older iPhone with no cellular contract as an iPod.
I'm sure there will be lots of them on eBay and craigslist for a long time.
Yeah, like Roger said I would just look for a used iPhone. Plenty of 64 GB models available out there for less than half of what a new Touch cost.
