Thanks for posting these threads. I rubbed some linseed oil on a steel saw back and cooked it and i like the contrast between the back and plate that was previously absent.

I am sorry to have to post this, but the finish has started to peel off in some places. My suspicion is that my oven doesn't heat to the temperature you set it at, and I may have overcooked it. The parts that peeled are very dark and crispy. It could also be the bluing caused adhesion issues, but looking at the part that peeled, it looks overcooked. It is mostly peeling on the edges but there is one part on the face that's peeling. It kind of baffled me because I even tested some sandpaper on it (400 grit) and it barely took any finish off when new.
