Need hardware to control downward-opening compartment

I'm designing a wall shelf that incorporates a secret storage compartment in its underside. The compartment is horizontal and hinged in the rear and when unlocked will swing open downward to about 45 degrees by the force of gravity. I need hardware that will allow the compartment to open at a slow controlled rate and can then be lifted back up to be closed. I have been searching all over for a gas damper to solve this problem, but the only one I have found is this one:

This one is probably too small and flimsy.

I would be most grateful for advice on where to find such hardware.

    Thanks!

I'm not sure how much weight you're wanting the dampers to handle, but I've found a few decent ones on Amazon at a far price. I was looking into the same thing for a free floating sleeve I'm building that will also drop down once unlocked with a hidden magnetic key to produce my firearms.
