The new queen size bed is finished and installed in the spare room ready for our visitors tonight. The posts and frame are from Celery Top Pine, a Tasmanian timber that is a bit harder than some pines (Janka 5.6) and has long been prized Down Under for boatbuilding (planking, deckbeams) as well as furniture and house fit-outs. The headboard feature is a piece of Camphor Laurel (rated a weed here) that took a bit of thinking as to how to make best use of the highly figured piece. Rail attachments was done with 4 bolts backed up by M&T joints. Finish is Livos Wood Oil with Feast Watson Floor Seal (Tung Oil) over.
The quilt was made by my wife and complements the bed nicely.
Next project will be a pair of bedside tables to go with the new bed.
