    Latest Tack Trunk Commission Completed

Delivered this today to its new owner...sapele trim over QSWO that's been colored provide the desired contrast. This was one of the very rare times that I used an oil based stain (Minwax Gunstock)...I typically only use water soluble dyes. There's no additional coloration on the sapele other than that gained from the BLO and shellac. Creeker Mike Null did the laser work for the appliqué that was selected by the client.

Looking good. Thanks for the info on the stain/coloring. May be useful in the future. I'm sure there is a happy customer.

Looks very nice. Is that in two pieces - that is, is the bottom drawer area a separate box? It looks like it protrudes behind the top box area.

Mike, yes, the drawer unit on the bottom is built separately and is 6" deeper; both for storage of saddle pads flat as well as to provide a more stable base when the heavy lid of the upper trunk is open and shifting weight toward the back.

Nice, the color and wood combination is fantastic. The laser work is a nice addition.

Beautiful trunk! I love the color combo and especially the scrollsaw work; a very nice touch.
