Thanks guys, I think your replies and some of the others have got me convinced to invest in a Trotec. Just the speed considerations alone will pay the investment back pretty quickly. But certainly the reduced noise is a huge factor as well. One day when I can have a proper big shop I'll surely own a large bed FSL. Man this stuff is fun.

After being a long time engraver and longtime forum member I can say without reservation that the greatest fire hazard in laser engraving is the operator. Almost all fires are the result of not paying attention to the job. Cameras and smoke detectors are fine but they will not replace a careful operator. As Gary has mentioned, cutting operations provide the most risk but I've seen things such as drawing blunders cause a fire.

If you buy a trotec you'll never even consider a FSL again, Not even in the same universe. FSL lego toy compared to a trotec or most other laser for that matter.
