    Wood Moisture

Is there a point at which you no longer anchor seal your wood? I have some that's about 18% and am curious if there's a point at which you no longer need to seal the wood. Living here in Wisconsin we're now entering the indoor dry season with furnaces on.

Thanks for your input, always appreciated.

18% is pretty damp IMO. Even 12% wood thrust into a dry, heated environment with no finish can experience checking.

if it is 18 at the surface between the pins, it is likely higher, deeper. Use the Anchorseal, wax, or paint + plastic wrap.

On a marginal moisture piece like this I often cut the wax 50/50 with water. Makes it go further and allows the wood to dry faster where there is less danger of splitting.

IMHO if it is not ready to turn it needs to be sealed.
