    New furnace

Had the furnace service the other day (by the company I've been using for decades). The furnace, I knew, was reaching the end of its life (25 years old), but, since we have had a lot of unplanned expenses this year I was hoping to get another year out of it. Turns out one of the heat exchangers was completely clogged with rust and another was also dying. Bit the bullet and decided to get a new one, expecting to pay around $4000. Got the bids yesterday and ordered a new two stage, 96 per cent efficiency one which, with rebates amounted to only $2500. Still have to pay that but $1500 less was a happy surprise. It gets installed on Monday. Yay!

Congrats. I hope it's as reliable as you old furnace. Will use less gas for sure.
