    Proud Daddy!

My 11 year old designed and built his first wood project with me this weekend. He saw someone selling a similar project at a craft store for over $200. He like me said to himself, I can build that! No pictures allowed so he designed it from memory. I helped with the math and using the power tools. He helped select the wood, run it through a thickness planer and mark all the miter saw cuts. He did all the marking and drilling.

Great project. What lumber did you start with? It looks like slats are about 1x2 size finished. Lots of cuts and drilling.

We started with 1x4 pine. We planed it down to 1/2" thickness and made 1" x 1/2" slats. He got to use the planer and the drill press. But he was in charge of marking all the cuts but I did those, since a miter saw is out of his age range He even learned the lesson of mismarking when he was tired. A great learning moment.
