    snap ... crackle ... pop

After I'd turned this and sanded ... it made crackly noises when I held it to my ear. It went on for some time. This was some 1/2 green wood, so I assume it was the turning, sanidng heat affecting the internal water somehow.

What the heck was that? -- water heated to steam inside the wood fibers or something?

I've not heard this before with my other wood.

Stress in the wood, or the heat of sanding.
