    Finishing fishing lures -

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question, but I'll take a shot. I'm interested in started to carve wooden fising lures, and I'm looking for information on how to finish them. Can anyone point me in the direction of the best books or online sites for good newbie information?

I don't know if this will interest you or not. My daughters boyfriend makes some fishing lures.

Hope this link will work. It has a short video.

    Testors works fine.

You can also use Rustoleum if you need something a little larger.

My lure making experience is mostly in the saltwater domain, but I'll put in my two cents. Here's how I finish wooden surf fishing plugs:

    1. Sand down to about 250-300 grit
    2. Dip the plug in a mixture of BLO & mineral spirits for about a minute
    3. Leave it alone for 5 days
    4. Spray on a coat of Krylon primer
    5. Spray on Krylon spray paints in the desired colors.
    6. Apply a coat of Envirotex epoxy finish and put the lure in some kind of slow-turning system. Let it turn overnight and don't touch the finish for at least 24 hours after applying.
    7. Go fishing!
