    Powermatic 81 bandsaw

    Hi,
I am looking for the pulley size on a Powermatic model 81 bandsaw drive shaft and motor. Also the motor speed. I think I seen on the diagram that it has two different size pulleys on the drive shaft. I would assume it is for different speed. I would like to also know what pulley you use the most.

    Thanks,
    JC

For bandsawing wood I strive for 3000sfpm blade speed.

If it's belt drive it uses a 1725 rpm motor. A Google search reveals that the two speeds are 2000 and 4500 sfpm. You can calculate your pulley sizes here. http://vintagemachinery.org/math/sfpm.aspx I've heard that the saw works best by eliminating the slower speed and using double pulleys.

Thanks for the help. The calculator will really help. I have a 3.5 inch double now on a 2 hp motor I can calculate from there to get the blade pulley size to get the 4500 sfpm.
