Almost 2 years ago I started the design for this Stickley style media center.
It's basically two Stickley no. 803 china cabinets that I "cut in half" to flank the Stickley 'inspired" media cabinet. The Media cabinet features a 19" rack mount center section. All the doors are thru tenon for strength. The China cabinets have LED lighting in recessed extrusions from Lee Valley.
To make the many tenons, I constructed a dual blade setup with spacers to get repeatable tenons. A real time saver.
The project had many periods of dormancy as other duties and activities beckoned beyond my basement woodshop. My wife and I live in Vermont so outdoor hikes, biking, and kayak adventures are high on our list.
I used Jeff Jewitt's Stickley finishing techniques. I substituted his oil based finishes for GF water borne dyes, glazes, and High performance top coat. The 1st dye step was sealed with a shellac wash coat.
My wife asked that I have this project completed for Tom Brady's return on the Patriot's game 4. I beat the deadline 10 minutes before the kickoff!
Hope you enjoy this post,
Chris
