    Burl project finished!

This is a project for a client's husband's desk that I made out of the slab of burl that I showed in an earlier post. Pen kits are the Statesmen rollerball and fountain pens. (nice kits!) The block and the pens are maple burl and I also turned the penholders out of the same burl. The finish is about 10 coats of rubbed on poly (to survive the ink) and then buffed out on the buffs on the lathe. I'm glad to be finished with this one. Will deliver tomorrow.

That is a truly stunning set, Sparky! Burls are most always quite beautiful in their own right, but you've really done those pieces justice! Man, I'd be proud to have that set sitting on my desk, that's for sure.

Stunning desk set... the Statesman is a fantastic kit for anyone who likes a larger size pen... the base is absolutely fantastic... beautiful match to the pens and I love the turned pieces that hold the pens...
Where did you find that nice old ink bottle... it really sets it off...

Thank you everyone! I am really happy with how it came out. I can't wait for the client to see it! (and I quite a bit of the burl left over)

Tom, The ink well came off of Ebay. The client's husdand is into guns and shooting and that is the theme of the room it is going in, my wife has done the interior design work on it. She and the Client thought he would love the rifles and target on the lid (don't know but think it is WW1 vintage). We also have another one that is silver on top and has a cut glass bottom that is very nice.

Thanks All for your comments! Back to the real world today, I am making a bed platform out of plywood and 2x4's.
