John Hurt passed away today, I think. I remember him best as Kane in Alien, but always found a certain irony that he played Winston Smith in 1984, and Adam Sutler in V for Vendetta.
Another good one gone.

Too bad. I never saw him give a bad performance.

Another one gone. Apart from those already cited, his portrayal of the war doctor in Dr Who was outstanding. Cheers
I remember seeing him for the first time as the drug addict in "Midnight Express" in 78. He was certainly a gem and will be missed.
Agreed, great actor - for me one of his best was The Elephant Man
The above are all good roles and performances by John. I first discovered his work through his role in, "The Naked Civil Servant." Followed his work ever since.
He will be missed.

He was certainly talented!

So much to learn, so little time.....
I first saw him as Caligula in the PBS Mini Series, I Claudius - in 1976.
Good series. I should download it and watch it again.
