Another question:
what is everyone using at the end of the vent outside? If it's just open, I'd be afraid of bugs and dirt to get in and possivly back up into the machine.
I have one (used to be two) wide open 4" dryer vent sitting right on the ground behind some holly and other vegetation, been there 15 years now. Anything that wants to get in the duct can walk right in, but I've never found anything in the duct but caked on soot & stuff .
My 6" garage vent goes out a plex window, and I clamped it to a basic black adjustable stovepipe duct. I have it pointing up, it's under the garage eves so whatever rain or snow gets in isn't much and just leaks out of the pipe seams. I did have some birds trying to make a nest in there, they were a little put off by the occasional hurricane, but I had to cap the end with a piece of wire screen to keep them out for good.
Just some 1/4" wire screen will keep pretty much anything out and won't affect the airflow enough to matter...

Take a trip to Homedepot They sell everything you need to setup a stack, to go out your roof or wall. We use four stacks going straight up and three feet above our roof line (Code For My Area) - Simple Steel Vent Cap with a Light Mesh so Birds cant get in. Dont cheap out do it the right way so you dont have a fire risk and it will last the life of your equipment.
When you laser cut wood for example it doesn't just produce smoke, it leaves a ton of other crap as well in the vents - Have your stacks cleaned one to two times a year, maybe more if you are running everyday. Dont Use any type of Plastic Pipe or Pvc - If its not fire rated dont use it.
