I have used this guideline (Dave's Dirty Dozen):

Cast iron top, brown, used machine you just bought "cheap". Lay paper towel over the top. Wet the paper towel with white vinegar. Keep it wet for an hour or more. Pull the paper towel scrub the "Bejesues" out of the top with green pad. Old school, coat with Jonshonson(sp) wax. Done, lasts for LONG time

  3. Thanks for the tip, I may need it after I get all my tools out of storage since the flood.

White vinegar makes rust go away. Chemical Engineer explained it to me. Don't remember the details. Put any rusted tool in White vinegar, 24 hours if it is really bad, then put whatever lube on it. I like Fluid film. Not too much. rub it "dry".

I just took some WD40, and some steel wool, then wet sanded it. I used a piece of machined steel to backup the wet sand. WD40 for the wet.

This is the fence, I am tackling the beds next.
