    Best way to glue veneer....

I made a set of speakers and glued the veneer using water based contact cement. It went well except the veneer curled a lot after the glue was applied. What could I have done to avoid having the veneer curl up on me?

Plan A: Cut it waaaay oversize and tape/weight it down. It'll still curl like crazy when you take off the tape/weight to apply it to the substrate, but at least you can feel like you tried.

Plan B: use paper-backed veneer. It'll probably still curl, just not quite as much.
