After contemplating for months, I pulled the trigger on a Veritas shooting plane. And I must say I'm quite impressed. A little honing, set up, and an added fence on my shooting board, and it's really a joy to use with excellent results.

J'accord. I finally broke down and bought the Veritas Shooter. It is so much better than using any other plane in my arsenal.

If you think you like it now, wait until it gets dull, and you have to resharpen the blade. You'll really love how quick and accurate this is. You don't even have to remove the plane from the the track to do it.
Also, next time you're feeling splurgey, get the shooting track. My set up feels more a Deli meat slicer than an end grain shooter.
Yep, that's what they do. While it is true that a good tool will not help a bad craftsman, a good tool certainly enhances the enjoyment of the craft. Congrats.
