craftsman 20 inch scroll saw

Has anyone run into a run away speed control on this saw. this one you set it mid range about 500 rpm and start saw with it and about 10 second s later it goes to full speed plus and breaks the blade?

I've had one since 2002 and haven't had that happen. In fact, it's one of the few variable speed machines I have that's pretty linear throughout the speed range.
