My bride picked up a new Arts and Crafts tile at the art fair, and I was commissioned to make a frame. I've done several of these, and tried different concepts each time. In this case I opted to carve the frame out of a solid piece of QSWO rather than make a mitered construction. It's over an inch thick, and the deep bevels on each side add a sculptural feel. The medullary rays add interest and almost make it look like it's mitered.

Finish is Transtint medium brown dye to pop the rays with Jacobean Oil-Based Interior Stain as an over glaze. Once dry I did a coat of natural Watco oil finish, followed by clear shellac and paste wax.
