    I would dip the spikes in Clear Penetrating Epoxy Sealer (CPES) and then top coat with whatever you are using on the rest of the tag. Like the other posters said - this will allow it to last a long long time. CPES is different from regular epoxy glue - it is thin and penetrates into the wood much better. Smith's brand was the original and is the one I use for outdoor furniture. The Total Boat CPES is also a great product - you can get it from Jamestown Distributors.

    I have not heard of that company, but I will definitely take a look. I love the idea of simply being able to dip the spikes into something and then seal as normal after that cures. This would be by far the easiest solution if I can make it work.
