    Red Oak would be my guess also, having had recent experience felling and bucking and splitting a dozen Red Oak trees.
    NOW you tell me...

    Looks like Red Oak to me. It will have a distinct odor if it is.

    Maybe it is frozen and he found it in a glacier in antartica.

    Broken record: examine the end grain. The end grain will tell in a heartbeat whether it could or cannot be red oak.
