    Hinge type

I am thinking about builing a bar in a wall. I'd like to have a door over the "desk top" area that opens down, thus expanding the desk top. Been looking at gas strut type hinges, but they always show the door opening up. Can these work either way? I like the idea of a slow controlled opening.

What are "gas strut type hinges"? I have used gas springs to hold up open hatches on yachts. You may want to provide a sketch or photo.

If I understand you, this would do the trick -- https://www.amazon.com/Soft-Down-Dro.../dp/B001DT1344

    Thank you!

It's exactly what I was thinking about.
