TS Sled-Bigger not better

Contrary to the usual practice, around here anyway-bigger is not better.

Check out this huge and so heavy TS Sled:

Made it several years ago, my knee wasn't bothering me then, and I felt stronger.

I hated having to use it, and for months-it's days have been numbered.

So, today, this newer featureless beauty takes it's place:

The extra long miter bar is for those wide pieces that have to be wrestled onto the table, whilst maintaining 90* to the blade. Easy to trim later if needed.

I love it.

The huge one is currently being cannibalized.

Your new one looks very similar to mine. I use a 2 x 4 sheet of 1/2" plywood for the base and a 2 x 2 Oak piece for the sheet stop. I also have an extra long piece of wood for the cross cut guide slot.

Looks like mine. only sugestion is to drill a hole to hang it from a nail.

larger one I made could cut a 4 x 8. You cut from the left slide to the right and use the fence as a stop. the piece was always supported or enough of it to make the second cut to length. Had an extra long fence on that one. you will have to spin your part to cut it to length.

Mine has a Basswood fence and 1/4" Lluan. It goes on and off with one hand.

They are not the same thing. One is a cross cut sled and the other a panel sled, serving different needs. A big, heavy cross sled is often not necessary though.

I got the impression from watching Norm that a panel sled had the fence away from, not near to - the user?
Norm, IIRC, had one like that that was triangular - I guess to keep the weight down.
