    Buck i burl

    What finish to use Buck i burl so black doesn't get so dark

    I see you haven't got many replies. About all I can tell you is that water based finishes keep the original color of the wood better than oil based finishes. Oil based finishes will add a amber color. I prefer the oil based finishes on most things I do.

    Spalted Buckeye can suck up a lot of finish and that will make it really dark, If you use a sealer first, like Shellac or Lacquer to prevent that, you can then add a finish over that with less of the darkening effect.

    I remember adding an oil finish on some Staghorn Sumac, wasn’t pretty.
