    rusted band saw blades

In cleaning out my shop, I found several, unused Lennox bandsaw blades that are covered in rust. Is there any point in soaking the blades in evapo-rust or are they toast? Thanks.

I think it's worth trying, considering what they must have cost. After you soak and wipe them down and the rust is gone, spray with some WD-40 to make sure they are dry. Wipe again and check thoroughly for any cracks. If they look good, try them on your saw on some scrap wood. I just Evaporusted a bunch of handplanes I had foolishly stored in an outdoor shed for a year. The Evaporust did a really good job.

It may depend on the extent of the rust. If "surface rust" (wire brush leaves a fairly smooth surface), I'd try cleaning. If the steel is pitted, the points on the teeth and gullets are probably degraded.
