    Itty Bitty Contest

It's time for the first ever Turners Forum Itty Bitty Contest. Come one, come all!!! The rules of the contest are simple.

For Entry, you must turn a miniature piece and post it in this thread. We will ask a non-participant to judge and determine the winner. You may turn any form you like and submit as many entries as you like as long as they fit the following criteria.

    1. No longer than 1 1/2" in length
    2. No larger than 3/4" in diameter.
    3. Must be made from wood
    4. Must be finished
    5. No Photo editing
    6. Three pics - One for show, One against a scale for length, and one against a scale for diameter.

You will be judged on the following criteria:

    1. Originality
    2. Form
    3. Finish
    4. Size (smaller the better)
    5. Complexity
    6. Figure and grain

    Impregnated stabilized blanks are acceptable.

The winner will be awarded a "Special" Trophy.

The contest will commence Today (12-1-05) and will accept entries until 12-8-05. Judging will take place after the entry deadline.

Any objections to these rules may be submitted to the contest committee via this thread. Good Luck!

That is way too small for me John, but I would be more than willing to be the judge of the contest.

I'm ok with you as a judge Jeremiah....Unless there are other objections. You'll need to start spelling your name correctly and we'll need to do a background investigation of course. Please list all your friends since you were 6 so we can visit their houses and ask them about you. Thanks

Hey...maybe we should have a panel of judges. Probably should assign a point system to each of the criteria.

Lol. Yeah John. My bad. It was early in the morning. No caffeine yet and dreading a test.

Egads!!!! Heck, I can't even turn something of "normal" size, much less something that tiny!!! Still, should be fun checking out all the entries! Neat idea, John!

    Well let's see.......

My lathe hasn't arrived yet so if I put my truck up on blocks and take one of the wheels off I should still have a chance..... Right?

Now, does anybody have a recommedation of how may rpm's I should have the LOML keep the engine running at while I try to turn

How good are you at whittling Bob? I suppose you could use a pencil sharpener and a drill bit.

I was worried about you. When does your lathe arrive?

    Hi All,
This is my entry in the "Itty Bitty Contest"

The wood is American Holly, and the piece is an Early American Goblet.
I tried to photograph the goblet with a scale, however the graduations would not show. The dimensions are as follows and I hope the photos show it in its true perspective.

    H= 0.455", Max. W=0.200", Wall Tk.=0.015", Stem=0.060"
The finish is JPW, Boy, was this hard to find a polishing cloth.

The piece is shown with the one I turned several weeks back, only to try and show a better perspective. I tried to show it with the skew, but I couldn't find it. The white one is my entry.

    Thanks for looking,
    Bill.>>>>>>>>>>>>>
