    Wood Gate Spring-closer

I have a wood gate that doesn't latch well. In addition to replacing the latch I want to get a spring-loaded closer. It is about 6' tall x 4 ' wide. Do you have experience with one that works year after year?

Not quite sure how to do that on a swing-open gate.

I've used gate closure springs like these for many years. You can use more than one if the gate is heavy. The Orange Borg carries them in their gate hardware section.

You add a short post a foot or more inside the gate unless you already have a tree there.

Stanley makes self-closing gate hardware. Got it at Lowes. But my gate is heavy and it was tricky to adjust the tension. It needs regular tweaking.

Or.. you can install a Kant Slam gate closer. Available here and elsewhere. Tried and true reliable (and no slamming)

I've got this closer on a metal framed, wood gate. I works beautifully. You can adjust how fast the door closes and the open stop position. It's been working for at least 3 years in weather. https://www.amazon.com/Lockey-USA-Ga...gateway&sr=8-6

I use the one's Lee suggested. They close OK but do slam a bit. The Kant-Slam looks interesting though.

I've had these on my cedar gate over 5 winters and they are still working very well. No rust, either.

I have several of the coiled torsion spring style Lee mentioned on gates around here. Closing force is adjustable. They work well and adjustments hold up to weather with no problems. My gates are 2" cedar solid framed panel doors (like an exterior house door, but lighter weight), and a single closer is more than sufficient.
