I have a number of Lee Valley bevel-up planes, and they all seem to have the same issue: shavings getting caught under the toe adjusting screw.
Firstly, I'm planing a diabolical wood, Elm; tear-out can be wicked, so I use a high angle microbevel in the BU planes.
But. in the Elm or soft Maple, the shavings get caught, and I seem to spend more time cleaning out the throat than planing. I've given up and gone back to BD planes for these woods.
When I asked one of the LV support staff one time, he said he routinely takes the toe adjustment scre out and stores it.
Has anyone else run into this problem, and did you solve it differently?
