Every woodworker has their own way...I prefer the helical head in my jointer. Every board goes through the jointer and IMHO both the jointer and planer greatly benefit from the helical head. When I got my machines, the jointer/planer combos weren't very good or easy to use so I have separate machines. But if I was buying now I'd take Rod's advice...

I bought the King Industrial KC-85FX (spiral) last year. Happy enough with it, though its the only 8" jointer I've ever used, so not much to compare it to. A vast improvement over my previous 6" Delta.

  4. Kinda reviving this thread but wondering about combo machine recommendations. Have looked at Minimax, Hammer, Felder, and CwI, but can’t pull the trigger. Thoughts?
