    Anodized aluminum

How forgiving is anodized aluminum as far a focus on a piece? What I have to work with is there is a center section that sticks out about 4 mm in the center. I could use that as a cutout for a template, but on the top end of the piece there is a lip about 1 mm that causes the piece unlevel. Is that a problem when trying to engrave a logo in it?

On your 1/8, 1/4 acrylic-wood template, just vector out where the lip and the center section are. Looks like enough surface area left to keep it steady. Or you can raster deep enough for the lip.
