    I'm in the same boat. I want to refresh the kitchen but my wife really likes the oak cabinets in the kitchen, even though they are considered quite out dated in the kitchen fashion world. Was wondering what to use to clean the cabinets before touch up stain and refinish. Appreciate the advice Jim.

    Looks pretty good. Did you go with shellac under the poly?

    I did a shellac under the polly, but not sure i would in the future, some areas seemed blotchy after using it.
