    Gaboon or Macassar Ebony

I found this in with other scraps and I'm thinking it's Gaboon. What do you guys think? Not the best photos but hopefully good enough for an identification.

Gaboon heartwood is black while the sapwood is brown. Macassar, while dark, is not really black, just very dark brown. I think what you have is Gaboon (and sells for around $250/bd ft when I last bought some).

I have a bunch of ebony and from the appearance I can believe it's Gaboon. Some of mine is jet black, some with streaks of brown.

I used to hunt for black now I prefer it with brown streaks. When jet black and with a gloss polish it looks too much like plastic. With some brown streaks it looks like wood.
