I guess it is my turn to show one of my miniture turnings. This is a hollow form that I made this moring. It stands about 3/4 inch tall and about 5/8 inch at its widest section. I don't think that the wall will be real thick. I did put a Brizilian Cherry top in it. this made of a Tagua Nut and some people call it vegatible ivory. Does this make me a member of the miniture club???

Bob - They're from a tropical rainforest plant like thing that grows in Tagua. Tagua is a suburb of Clevetown.

That's what the INSIDE of the tagua nut looks like! The outside is quite gnarley, but even that can work for some things...like itty-bitty natural edge bowls and vessels. They often do have a void on the interior, so you can plan on "losing" one on occasion if you cut to deep at just the wrong time. tanks for the positive comments. these nuts are fun to turn becasue they turn real easy. the biggest problem with them is to get the dark brown skin off of them. the white part of the nut finishes with real ease and to get a good shine on this one i used sanding sealer followen by the white hutt wax. one other problems with themis that they all have some voids in the center. it does not show in the picture but this one has some small fishers that show on the outside.
