We don't wear street shoes in the house which means a lot of shoes and slippers by the front door. So when we replaced the cabinets we used a couple of 12" deep upper cabinets installed as lowers leaving a shoe port 11" high. It works out great, but it's only 36" wide and especially when guests come over it could be wider.

It wasn't practical to raise that last cabinet but I might have been able to give it a 12" deep toe space, which would have been better. If I ever do another cabinet....

Hmmm, opposite this is a coat closet. Maybe I could shorten the doors, install a closet floor and a shoe port on that side.
