Choosing a style of lid support/stay

Hi, I'm looking for a chest lid support/stay that can be installed or adjusted so that the lid can be opened a bit more than 90 degrees. I've been scouring the internet for days looking through product descriptions that would indicate the degree which any particular lid support will open, but this information is never part of the description. I want a simple lid support that will allow the chest lid to tilt slightly back beyond 90 degrees and not stop vertically. I'm not particularly concerned with the style except that I would like something simple (not a bulky mechanism) and NOT a bright gold finish but a choice of darker finishes like bronze. Is there a particular style that will work best for this? Or can any lid stay be installed to accomplish this?

Ya I see them al over the place anywhere from $1.95 each to $35. I want something quality and heavy duty but it's hard to tell from pictures.

If you don't want it to slam shut, consider hydraulic pistons. They can be positioned according to where you want the lid to stop.

See if you can beautify a soft close toilet seat mechanism.

I would use a short pneumatic strut. You can buy ones that allow you to drop the pressure. Best practice is to box in the struts so they do not snag the stuff packed into the box.

You could also check out Rockler. They generally carry quality hardware at a mark up. Also Lee Valley has a good selection.

This is a great option, maybe the best. They are used a lot on boats to help keep hatches open and they help with a soft close. You may be used to seeing similar on car trunks and hoods. Go to Amazon and search for:

Lot's of options here. I've found Woodworkers Supply to be great to buy from. I used some soft close on a bench top years ago. Friend I made it for wanted something that wouldn't slam shut on his kids fingers/hands when using it.
