Source for Hardwood Near Marion County, Florida?

I am finishing a welded frame for a kitchen cart. I am going to need three shelves about 3' long and 18" deep. I am not excited about paying Home Depot prices for hardwood. Can anyone here recommend a good source for wood near Marion County, Florida?

I was thinking I would put a piece of maple butcher block on top, but I guess the cart would look funny with a butcher block top shelf and ordinary wood lower shelves.

Try Florida Woodsmith outside of Gainesville. http://www.floridawoodsmith.com/. He has air dried and kiln dried material. It might be a little bit of a haul depending on where you are in Marion. This time of year the pickings can get a little slim though. Good guy with decent prices. I bought from him a few times when I lived in Tallahassee.

    Why is that??
    - After I ask a stranger if I can pet their dog and they say yes, I like to respond, "I'll keep that in mind" and walk off

That was just my experience buying from him over the course of three years. For whatever reason he had less inventory in the fall. That may have changed because it looks like he has moved to a full time operation. When I was buying from him, it was small, part time operation.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

Oddly, that guy doesn't put his address on his website.

Ha! You are correct. Just call him. He’s very approachable and knowledgeable.
