Thread: Hackberry Box

  1. Hackberry Box

Thanks to Big Mike for encouraging (nagging) me to try one of these. I watched Raffan's video (thanks Dennis) and also recently bought Raffan's book per Mike's recommendation.

First box for me, so nothing but simplicity in the form. It was fun and I plan to do more of these.

    4" wide... 3-1/2" tall...

That is very nice Mark. Simple effective design I think. The wood is pretty cool too!

    Mark,

Fantastic first box! I too am being influenced by Mike's boxes and drawn in that direction along with pens. I may finally be starting to settle into my calling on the lathe. Was Raffan's video fairly helpful. I have one of his other DVD's and find it more show (offy) and tell than teaching. A little fast paced is a better word. He is good at what he does and there is no argument there, just need to slow him down a little.

Thanks for sharing your box with us.

Mark, it looks terrific. I think I better get busy as you seem to have a knack for sure! I love the wood and I like the way you got your grain aligned. Nicely done. I hope you have another in the works!

I have done so much with so little for so long I am now qualified to do anything with nothing......

P.S. If you are interested in plans for any project that I post, just put some money in an envelope and mail it to me and I will keep it.

    Great job Mark!

  13. Thanks everybody!

Bob, I liked the video. It's fast-paced for sure - so lots of rewinding for me... I would recommend the book over the video if you're only going with one of them. Just my opinion.

Mike, I don't have one going yet... but will soon... this was fun!

Yup. I'm with Dennis. Except I've probably tried to turn my first box at least a dozen times. And they kept getting worse. One of these days.....
