    Creeker's Past Week's Accomplishments

    16 Apr 2023

    Greetings,
Been a long hard week at the day job. Every day helps me to look forward to retirement.

working on fixing one of my 1 HP bench grinders. I should have it back in service after my oncall week is done for the day job. Worked on the lawn between the storms and I'm trying to get things done so I can add a used Delta cabinet saw and a 8 ft long stroke sander to my woodworking shop. I just need to find me about 4 good sized strong young men to help me pick them up, haul them here and put them in my shop space. I'm not as young as I used to be and I wished I was as healthy as I was when I was 18 but that was a LONG time ago.

That's it for me, so what did YOU do this past week?

Best of weeks to you all.
    Thanks & Happy Wood Chips,
    Dennis -

Dennis, I look forward to the day (as clearly you do) that you can say "I'm retired!" and then get busier than ever. (At least that's been my experience. LOL)

Busy week in many respects. Most importantly, I got the walkway from the house to the shop completed, the forms stripped off, the area re-graded and seeded. There's still more lawn restoration required and I will be pouring a small pad for the grill just off the patio, but otherwise, I think it's safe to say that any kind of construction activity relative to the new shop is pretty much complete. I look forward to the new grass coming in over the next few weeks and months.

And then this happened...Saturday morning, we went to a "Meet and Greet" at our local Subaru dealer showroom for a dog rescue. (as well as another one nearby) Professor Dr. SWMBO is retiring in a couple of months and wanted to add a dog to our flock (we are bird people) to help with focus, exercise and other things once she's done teaching. Since it was a Subaru dealership, there of course, was Subaru swag including the ever-popular "Chewbaru" squeaky toy.

But even more importantly, that Chewbaru came with something even more special...Oliver

Oliver is a 9 mo old Boxer mix, very sweet and energetic...still very much a puppy. He's settled right in. We were completely taken by surprise when the wonderful foster mom brought him for the required home visit yesterday to be sure there were no issues with our birds and after a bit of time, she whipped out the contract and a small bag of "his stuff". That, in turn, caused a sudden need to go shopping. Hint...do NOT give Oliver your credit card! He has "needs". LOL

At any rate, it's really wonderful how the Subaru ecosystem is so supportive of pet rescues and we were glad that our local dealer participates. They completely cleared out the showroom for the event, which was a mad-house of fluffiness. I felt a little bad for all the sales staff that was there as there was no way in heck they were going to sell any vehicles while the Meet and Greet was going on. The sales manager I know (he was our original sales person there) was pretty much sitting there twiddling his thumbs and acknowledged to me when we were talking that it was not going to be a big sales day.

This week, aside from the clear distraction of having an overgrown puppy hanging around, I need to get rid of the last remaining small section of the defunct old fence behind the shop building and grade out the piles of stone and dirt back there in preparation for what is likely going to be an expensive re-fencing of the property. In the shop, I have a small job to complete for a friend. Not sure what else I'll get done, but I'm sure I'll try.

The distration of a puppy will last much longer than this week. Good luck with your previous plans!

ROFLOL. Professor Dr. SWMBO is already exhausted! He's a good boy, but very much an overgrown puppy. And just like with our birds or the horses we used to own...there's always something to buy/acquire. Of course, he gets to go to the store for that, too. Things will get a little less tiring once we have a fence and can let him get his energy out without dragging us along for the ride or for one of us to not have to get dressed to "go for a walk" at o-dark-early. The fence will also let the birds get back to the level of attention they are used to, too. I am glad for sure that I have the shop running now so I can redirect myself from time to time from this new level of, um...fun.
